Overview

The UXPA DC Metro Chapter is holding elections for the volunteer positions of President, Vice President/Director of Program and Events, Director of Marketing and Outreach, and Treasurer/Director of Finance and Sponsorship. If you would like to run for one of these four leadership positions, complete this application form. Your name and qualifications will appear directly on the election ballot so be sure to edit your responses for grammar and accuracy. The deadline for nominations is January 12, 2018. Elections will be held mid January. Terms are anticipated to start late-January 2018 and run approximately 12 months.

Time commitment

Chapter officers are expected to contribute to bi-weekly planning calls, communication via Slack, and attend the majority of the Chapter programs (approximately 10 per year). Board members should be able to commit to 5-10 hours per week for approximately 12 months.

Ongoing Activities

  • UXDC Conference - The city’s premier UX Design conference that brings out hundreds of designers every year to learn, share and grow together.
  • Design for Inclusion - A new series to help to spark conversation in the community around inclusive design practices and applications.
  • Mentorship Program - After a successful pilot program in the last quarter of 2017, the mentorship committee is looking to improve and expand upon this initiative in 2018.
  • Website Redesign - Our very own uxpadc.org is finally get a much needed face lift! Help will be needed with content, testing, and other tasks to get our site more user-friendly for our community.
  • Partnerships with local events like World IA Day, UX Camp DC, and more - Staples in the local conference circuit, these partnerships help to build our brand and grow our community.

Roles and Responsibilities

All board members are expected to help with brainstorming ideas for programs and sponsors, arranging for locations and speakers, logistics of running the programs, and other duties as needed and defined by the President. Specific responsibilities and descriptions for each position are listed below.

President/Board Director

Any candidate for President is required to have at least one year of service to the chapter prior to running, either as a member of the Board or as an active volunteer. The Chapter Board will review and approve by a majority vote the qualifications of any candidate for this role before they are added to the ballot.

Heads the Chapter Council and is responsible for its operations. Leads the formulation of chapter goals, strategy, policies, and partnerships. Conducts regular meetings of the Chapter Council and assigns duties to other officers as needed. Oversees and supports Board members and committee managers by obtaining status/activity reports and appointing special assistants or committees for specific tasks not easily managed by standing committees. Fosters collaboration with local communities, UXPA International, and other UXPA Chapters.

Vice President/Director of Program & Events

Leads, in partnership with UXPA DC board members and volunteers, programming, arranges for locations and speakers, and coordinates logistics of running events (generally monthly). Works closely with Director of Marketing and Outreach to develop branding strategies around event series and consistent communications. Helps President formulate policy and establish the Chapter's long-term and short-term goals. Assumes the duties of Chapter President when the President is unavailable.

Director of Marketing & Outreach

Leads, in partnership with UXPA DC board members and volunteers, the development and delivery of brand, messaging and content across multiple platforms. In addition, the director is responsible for increasing broad awareness and understanding of UXPA DC in the DMV community, initiating and developing relationships with community stakeholders that lead to increased sponsorship and increased program effectiveness.

  1. Leads committee that manages Chapter’s content strategy to include but not limited to:
    • UXPA DC Website
    • Social media presence (Twitter, Facebook, Medium)
    • Newsletters (MailChimp)
    • Event announcements and event registration
  2. Prepares and sends correspondence related to Chapter business including but not limited to:
    • Chapter memos/reminders
    • Sponsorship requests
  3. Takes a creative approach to engaging UXPA DC members by crafting proactive, call-to-action messaging to UXPA DC members, sponsors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  4. Administers communication tools and recommends tools that may be beneficial for the board and/or Chapter.

Treasurer/Director of Finance & Sponsorships

Any candidate for Director of Finance / Treasurer is required to have at least one year of service to the chapter prior to running, either as a member of the Board or as an active volunteer. The Chapter Board will review and approve by a majority vote the qualifications of any candidate for these roles before they are added to the ballot.

Ensures the Chapter stays financially healthy and in compliance with local and federal regulations regarding non-profit organizations. Defines sponsorship packages with President and works closely with Director of Marketing & Outreach to solicit new sponsors. Manages chapter banking accounts and payments, prepares financial reports requested by Chapter Council, and files federal and state financial forms and documents. Takes a creative approach to identifying empowerment opportunities through finance, including small student scholarships, local sponsorships, and supporting incubating communities.
